Early Childhood I/II

At Kids' Place Day School, we view very young children as active participants in their own development. We believe that what young children learn, how they learn, how they feel about learning and what they feel about themselves and others are all vitally important. We also believe that all of these factors interact in the young child's overall learning process.

Based on this philosophy, our Early Childhood Program has been designed for growth with individual activities formulated for very young children and their Teacher Caregivers. Learning to move and learning by moving is the process by which very young children construct their reality. Young children's awareness is the product of their learning.

In our Early Childhood Program, our Teacher Caregivers provide individualized attention and stability with regard to attending to young children's primary needs, responsiveness to them in a safe/nurturing environment and energetic levels of stimulation to encourage awareness of the environment and development of "self."

Language development is of paramount focus in our Early Childhood Program. Nonverbal and verbal communications impress upon a very young child the ability to understand his/her own success in relation to the environment as well as enhance and extend pleasure in the learning process.

Encouraging independence is an important factor as young children reach the Toddler age. At this age, when Toddlers indicate social and emotional readiness, we support their independence by introducing activity centers to them to encourage interest and interaction amongst the "group" through specific skills related to family living, language, creativity and self-expression.

We strengthen Toddler's thinking skills and introduce many physical activities to develop fine and gross motor skills through hands-on art activities, manipulative activities, music and movement as well as large motor "play."
