Primary Grades

Our Primary Grade classes are combined in a mix-age grouping which encourage positive peer relationships and unique opportunities for learning in an atmosphere geared toward the creative process. Learning from each other, sharing information and ideas and allowing each child to advance at his/her own pace (based on ability level) is the cornerstone on which the curriculum program is designed.

Our Primary reading program enables each child to acquire reading/language skills and abilities within a literature based framework. We utilize poems and stories as well as basal curriculum materials to enhance the learning process. In addition, children create their own reading materials by making use of the "reading/writing connection" as a learning modality.

Mathematical concepts are taught utilizing a hands-on approach as well as formal, consumable workbook materials for reinforcement. Pattern blocks, unifix cubes, links and many child-made manipulatives are an integral part of our collection of learning tools.

Art, Science, Social Studies and Health are integrated into the academic subjects above utilizing teaching techniques that explore the children's natural curiosity and inquisitiveness.

The human body, polar animals, space exploration, plants and seeds, dinosaurs, the ocean, geography, map reading and multi-cultural holiday studies are a sample of the focus of topics that are included in our challenging primary curriculum.
